If you want to know why Valparaiso is in the Antarctica folder it's simple. Valparaiso is on the way to Antarctica - at least it was for us. We joined our group in Santiago Chile and arrived a few days early to see the area. Valparaiso is about 75 miles from Santiago. It was the principal port in Chile for years and was known as "Little San Francisco" and "Jewel of the Pacific" in the 19th century when it was a stopping point for ships rounding the horn on their way to San Francisco. The Panama Canal put it out of business but it seems to have been reborn as a center for artists. The old historic quarter of Valparaiso is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in no small part because of the murals which cover almost every exposed wall. The following images are examples of this "art".
